Oprah for President
* after taking a selfie in the hammock together *
Mom: "Wow, my head looks so big?! Let's take another selfie."
* after taking a 2nd selfie *
Mom: "Oh my! My head is huge!"
* both laughing before trying to snap a 3rd selfie *
Mom: "I guess this pic is okay, but wow I have a huge Oprah head!!!"
Brady: "Like Oprah the boy or the girl."
Mom: "What do you mean? There's only 1 Oprah and she's a girl."
Brady: "No, there's a boy too."
Mom: "No, there's just 1 girl Oprah."
Brady: "What about the President Oprah? He's a boy."
Mom: "That's OBAMA!"
* both laughing hysterically *

Young Love
* after school on the walk home *
Mom: Hey buddy, how was school today?
Brady: Good.
Mom: What's one thing you learned today? * I ask Brady this every day after school *
Brady: Nothing, we had a substitute teacher today.
Mom: Did anything good happen at school today?
Brady: Well, Ayla said that she was happy that I've worn my new Habs hat to school every day this week!
Mom: That was nice of her. Is she your girlfriend?
Brady: Noooooooooo!
Mom: You sure?
Brady: No.
Mom: Why aren't you sure if she's your girlfriend or not?
Brady: Well, she likes me. She said so.
Mom: Do you like her?
Brady: I don't know.
Mom: Well, she's a nice girl - she's very smart & pretty cute too.
Brady: And she's a Habs fan & she said she wore her Habs shirt to my birthday party just for me!
* long pause *
Brady: Okay, yes. She's my girlfriend. I'll let her know at school tomorrow.

FIRE STARTER!!!
Brady: Is today Tuesday?
Mom: No, it's Friday. Why?
Brady: 'Cause on Tuesday we do "Smudging" at school. And I wanted to do it again.
Mom: What's "Smudging"?
Brady: It's when the teacher lights sticks & twigs to make smoke and then we wash our hands in the smoke, and push the smoke over our heads, back, tummy, and whole bodies. Each thing means something too, like washing your tummy in the smoke means that you're blessing your tummy for good health & nutrition.
Mom: Wow, that sounds interesting! I'm glad you're learning about other cultures. Do you know what it means when I say "other cultures"?
Brady: It is fun Mom. I know "other cultures". Did you know that our teacher that does the "Smudging" is called Aboriginal People, and her family has been around since the beginning of year one, and that means they're Native, and the Aboriginal People helped the early settlers called Pioneers?
Mom: I did know that, did you know that's called history? Do you like learning about history, because maybe when you're older you'll want to study history in University?
Brady: Yeah, I like history, but really when I heard they were gonna be setting fire to stuff in the gym, I was like "Yeah, I wanna go!!!"
Mom: =/
